Cowley College physics instructor Martin Shaffer recently went to Puerto Rico to give a high energy physics workshop for teachers and students. The workshop took place November 2-3 at the University of Puerto Rico at Mayaguez.
Shaffer was invited to give a workshop on Cosmic Ray detection and calibration. During this workshop teachers brought their cosmic ray detectors that were not working correctly to learn how to properly operate, calibrate and use these detectors in this two day workshop.
After the workshop on November 3, Shaffer was invited to the Residential Center of Educative Opportunities of Mayaguez, which is a high school residential magnet school for the math and sciences to give a one hour talk on “The Origins of Cosmic Rays”.
