The Cowley College Collegiate Quiz Bowl (CQB) Teams participated in the Fall Invitational training tournament Friday at Neosho County Community College.
The Cowley A Team, made up of Connor Lancaster, Amanda Glenn, Dylan Stone, and KayLynn Prough won three matches and lost only one to Johnson County, who has the No. 1 student in the nation for community college quiz bowl and plans to compete in Jeopardy soon.
“We played this student in 2018 and he has returned from a sabbatical,” Cowley College Quiz Bowl sponsor Dianne Flickinger said. “We brought two strong teams but Johnson is the team to beat this year.”
The Cowley B Team, consisting of Jacob Helzer, Corban Smith, Cody Kerner, and Mark Kiselev went 2-2 at the tournament.
“Johnson was so tough that three teams could not get more than 40 points, yet our own Jacob Helzer and his Cowley B team were able to score 130 points,” Flickinger said. “Dylan Stone had a strong third and fourth game.”
Other teams at the training tournament were, Fort Scott, Allen, Coffeyville, Cloud County, and Neosho.
Prior to the tournament, members of the Cowley College Collegiate Quiz Bowl teams stopped near Independence at the Little House on the Prairie Museum.
