Act One Drama Club raises money for spring trip
The Cowley College Act One Drama Club held a benefit concert and silent auction on Saturday, January 20. The fundraiser, Cowley Hits the Road, brought in close to $500 that will go towards the Club’s spring trip to New York.
The silent auction was held in the Earle N. Wright Community Room prior to students in the Act One Drama Club performing in a fun, family friendly variety show, where the students sang, danced, and acted in the Robert Brown Theatre.
All items in the auction were made by the Act One Drama Club.
The proceeds will help pay for workshops and to see professional shows while in New York.
“Our students are wildly talented, and every time we have one of these shows, I am reminded of that,” theatre director Cara Kem said. “Usually the shows we pick for the season limits the students to performing only those needs, however on this night, they get to collaborate and create what they enjoy most to perform on the stage. It's really fun for me, as their director, to see what they conjure up on their own.”
Kem said they are discussing the possibility of having the benefit concert and silent auction at another theatre in town in the future.
