Homecoming to take place Feb. 14

Voting for Cowley College’s homecoming King and Queen will take place January 22-29. Students will be notified through their student email with a link to the online voting.

Candidates were nominated from various clubs and organizations on campus. The King and Queen will be crowned at halftime of the men’s basketball game vs. Dodge City on Feb. 14. The Homecoming Dance will follow in the Earle N. Wright Community Room.

Queen finalists

Brief biographies on the Queen finalists and their activities at Cowley:

Brylee Burroughs of Arkansas City is the daughter of Darren and Carolyn Burroughs. At Cowley she was a co-captain of the Lady Tiger volleyball team, which placed fifth at the national tournament. She is also a member of Phi Theta Kappa, works seasonally at the Cowley Bookstore, and was a candidate for Queen Alalah. She was named a First Team NJCAA Academic All-American and was selected as a second-team all-conference and all-district volleyball performer while finishing with the highest career hitting percentage in the history of the program. She plans to continue playing volleyball at a four-year school and complete a degree in elementary education.

Brianna Fuchs of Wichita, KS is the daughter of Greg and Brenda Fuchs. At Cowley she was named a First Team all-conference and all-region outfielder for the Lady Tiger softball team, which placed fifth at the 2017 national tournament. She is also involved in Phi Theta Kappa. She plans to continue playing softball at a four-year school following her time at Cowley.

Braydee Holmes of Udall, KS is the daughter of Chris Holmes and Tisha Kistler and stepdaughter of Melissa Holmes. At Cowley she is the editor-in-chief of the Cowley Press, secretary of the Media Club, member of Act One, and a Student Ambassador. She is also involved in theatre and was a candidate for Queen Alalah. She was named to the President’s Honor Roll her second semester at Cowley. After graduating from Cowley she plans to attend a four-year school in California to pursue film production for screenwriting and directing.

JoLee Ritchhart of Leavenworth, KS is the daughter of Bill and Stacy Ritchhart. At Cowley she was a co-captain of the Lady Tiger volleyball team, which placed fifth at the national tournament. She was named the Jayhawk Conference Volleyball Defensive Player of the Week on three occasions, and is the Cowley record holder for digs in a season. Along with volleyball she is a member of Phi Theta Kappa and is a Student Ambassador. She plans to continue playing volleyball at a four-year school while attending nursing school to obtain her BSN.

Taylor Williams of Ardmore, OK is the daughter of Trey and Danita Williams. At Cowley she is a three-time All-American member of the Lady Tiger track and field program. Along with track, she is a Student Ambassador, Resident Assistant, tutor, and is involved in Phi Theta Kappa. She has been selected to the President’s and Dean’s Honor Roll, and plans to continue her track career at a four-year school while achieving a degree in Health and Exercise Science.

King Finalists

Brief biographies on the King finalists and their activities at Cowley:

Connor Churchill of Lincoln, NE is the son of Tim Churchill and Denice Monroe. At Cowley he is a Student Ambassador, Resident Assistant in the Central Avenue Dorm, and is involved in Phi Theta Kappa and as a member of the Cowley Cheer team. He was named to the Dean’s Honor Roll and hopes to cheer at either Wichita State University or Kansas State University after graduating from Cowley.

Julian Cornejo of Wellington, KS is the son of Jamie and Maria Cornejo. At Cowley he is a Student Ambassador, Resident Assistant, and is involved in Act One, Phi Theta Kappa, and the IMPACT program. He plans to pursue a theatre degree at Wichita State University.

Felipe Escalante of Arkansas City is the son of Jovito and Antonia Escalante. At Cowley he is involved in the Media Club, Math and Science Club, Art Club, IMPACT, Cowley’s Game Club, the Cowley Go Student Development Team, and is a member of the Cowley Press. He has been the recipient of Math and Science awards and plans to complete a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Wichita State University.

Edgar Fuentes of Arkansas City is the son of Pablo and Francisca Fuentes. At Cowley he is president of Phi Theta Kappa, is a Student Ambassador, is a member of the Math & Science Club, Game Club, Multicultural Scholars Program, and the Collegiate Quiz Bowl team. He is a member of the President’s Honor Roll and was named to the Kansas All-Academic Team. He was named Cowley College’s December 2017 Student of the Month and plans to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in Legal Studies from Washburn University.

Aaron McGee of Kansas City, KS is the son of Aaron McGee and Lisa Picknick. At Cowley he is a key member of the Tiger men’s basketball team, which is currently 11-4 overall and 8-3 in the Jayhawk Conference. After Cowley he plans to continue playing basketball at a four-year school and major in pre-medicine.
