F-1 Reinstatement

  • Personal letter from student to USCIS explaining the circumstances causing them to lose status, that they are currently following F-1 status requirements, why reinstatement is necessary, and a specific request for USCIS to reinstatement the student’s F-1 status. The letter should be brief, and the student should take responsibility.
  • DSO letter: You may write a brief letter supporting the student’s application and verifying what the student is saying. Expected graduation date of student. Any comments you can make on the student’s progress toward degree completion.
  • Form I-539 & G-1145
  • Copies of immigration documents: passport, visa, I-20s, I-94
  • Copy of receipt showing payment of SEVIS fee (I-901 fee)
  • Copy of I-20 that you issue requesting reinstatement
  • Finances showing the student’s ability (This may require a new financial statement. Generally, a financial statement within the past 6 months is a best practice).

$370. You may pay the fee with a money order, personal check, or cashier’s check. When filing at a USCIS Lockbox facility, you may also pay by credit card using Form G-1450, Authorization for Credit Card Transactions. If you pay by check, you must make your check payable to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Please note that service centers are not able to process credit card payments.

  1. a Form I-539 filed by an H-4 spouse of an H-1B nonimmigrant or filed concurrently with Form I-765 for category (c) (26).; or
  2. a Form I-539 filed by P-4 dependents of major league athletes or support personnel.
