Public Safety Officer — Arkansas City Campus

Location: Arkansas City Campus

Status: Full-Time

Shift: 2nd Shift (Monday–Friday 3:00 pm – 11:00 pm)

Job Summary:

Cowley College Public Safety Officer promotes lawful behavior and protects the welfare of students, faculty, staff, and visitors as a uniformed public safety presence on campus. This position performs foot and vehicle patrols and surveillance monitoring at Cowley College campuses, centers, and events/activities to monitor human behavior, buildings and property, investigate disturbances, maintain order, and enforce regulations. Additionally, this position is responsible for the physical safety of all campus buildings, and parking facilities, which includes patrolling and using surveillance systems to report suspicious behavior; and locking and unlocking doors. In emergency situation, the Public Safety Officer is responsible for responding to the situation to provide first aid (if needed), and notifying additional law enforcement and/or emergency personnel, as deemed necessary. Other duties include monitoring and responding to alarm systems, and serving as crowd control at special events and activities hosted by the college.

Position Duties:

  • Guard the security of the students, faculty, staff and campus visitors who are present in the school or College campus and the off-campus areas.
  • Patrol all College assigned areas on foot, in assigned motor vehicle, or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
  • Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; use College keys to open and close buildings; monitor closed building for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities.
  • Comply and enforce all college policies and procedures, as well as Federal, State, County and City laws and regulations including OSHA, CLERY, and VAWA, and others.
  • Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary.
  • Provide other public assistance, such as lockout services, motor vehicle jump-starts, and routine information.
  • Watch for and report irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; and contact emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required.
  • Be on alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators; approach suspicious persons and/or notify police, as appropriate.
  • Send emergency communication announcements and instructions via intercom, text, email, etc.
  • Document violations of college policy and other events by producing effectively written incident reports.
  • Report, document, and investigate incidents, i.e. auto accidents, personal injuries, theft, and miscellaneous reports.
  • Submit daily report s for review and approval.
  • Accept and record recovered lost or found property.
  • Provide information and direction to visitors, students, and staff.
  • Maintain a helpful and caring attitude while interacting with students, public, and staff.
  • Know disaster/emergency procedures and implement as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality on all records, reports, and incidents that are investigated by the security department, as well as any other record and/or information that is accessible to the security department.
  • Assist with parking control and monitoring of large groups, special events, and athletic events.
  • Maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organizations.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned, and assist the Director of Security and Public Safety.

  • Associate Degree in Criminal Justice or related degree, preferred.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification or must be able to obtain and maintain such certifications.
  • Taser Certification or must be able to obtain and maintain a Taser Certification.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of security and/or public safety experience. Part-time experience will be counted as half of full-time experience; for example, two (2) years of part-time experience will equal one (1) year of full-time experience.
  • Law enforcement certification, preferred.
  • Current valid driver’s license with favorable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must have current MMPI Psychological Evaluation (within most recent 24 months).

Other Special Requirements:
This position is in a 24/7 environment. Ability to work flexible hours including rotating shifts will be required. Employees will be expected to work holidays, nights and/or weekends to meet staffing requirements. Employees may be required to work hours outside normally scheduled hours when it is determined to best meet the needs of the College.

Cowley Ambassador to Admissions

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Position Reports To: Assistant Coordinator of Admissions

Division: Enrollment Management

Job Summary:

The Cowley Ambassador to Admissions position is a temporary position not to extend beyond one year from date of hire. This position will be responsible for providing support to the Admissions Department for the summer season and during busy periods of student enrollment. Duties may include representing Cowley College at local and state-wide fairs, high enrollment dates, and any other community wide Cowley events.

Position Duties:

  • Provide information to prospective students about Cowley College and its programs.
  • Assist in book buy-back at the conclusion of semesters.
  • Assist during Cowley events as necessary.
  • Conduct campus tours with prospective students/parents.
  • Administrative office related duties as needed.
  • Address needs/concerns or direct to appropriate department.
  • Direct students on the navigation of student information systems such as Tiger Connect, Blackboard and Cowley email.
  • Provide student referrals to appropriate areas (Student Life Counseling, Disability Services, IMPACT, and Career Center.

Director of Accounting

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Position Reports To: Vice President of Finance and Administration

Job Summary:

The Director of Accounting is responsible for the operations of the Business Office for the college in all matters of cash control, general accounting, budget, and purchasing, and acts as a resource to all office employees relative to accounting matters and procedures.

Position Duties:

  • Direct and administer all accounting functions of the College including monthly closing of accounting books.
  • Direct and administer all cash management functions of the College including oversight of cashiers at various locations.
  • Assist in maintaining and reconciliation inventory of fixed assets of the college; ensuring fixed assets are properly accounted for in the College’s accounting records.
  • Prepare accounting records and schedules for annual financial statement audit.
  • Prepare financial reports for Board, Administration, and state and federal agencies, as needed.
  • Drawdown and secure appropriate funds from the United States Department of Education for federal and state programs; deposit funds in a timely manner.
  • Ensure monthly closing of the books including student and endowment from the College Foundation’s and monthly journal entries and reconciliations in a timely manner.
  • Reconcile all bank accounts monthly; checks written, outstanding checks, and outstanding deposits, including other investments and securities.
  • Supervise Accounts Payable Specialist staff in the administration of payment of bills for all funds and auxiliary enterprises.
  • Supervise Accounts Receivable Specialist and other staff in the collection of tuition and fees, and other student financial services activities.
  • Advise Payroll Specialist in the administration of employee’s monthly payroll.
  • Coordinate and reconcile records of Financial Aid, clubs, organizations, and auxiliary services.
  • Maintain files on all aspects of the financial operations of the College.
  • Comply with all College policies and procedures.
  • Assist in development of business office desk procedures.
  • Assist in the coordination and maintenance of accounting and financial ERP/SIS system.
  • Maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organization.

  • Experience with accounting and finance application in an ERP system (ex. Jenzabar, Banner, or equivalent).
  • Experience in Microsoft Office.

Administrative Assistant for VP of Academic Affairs

Job Summary:

The Administrative Assistant for Academic Affairs provides administrative support to the Vice President of Academic Affairs.

Position Duties:

  • Greet and provide necessary information to those contacting the Academic Office. Serve as liaison for Academic Affairs, handling questions and assisting faculty and students in routine matters.
  • Perform receptionist, correspondence, clerical, and filing duties as required for the office.
  • Maintain excellent computer skills to facilitate developing necessary reports and records.
  • Serve as the Secretary for the Academic Affairs Council, including meeting arrangements, preparation of agenda items, and preparation and distribution of meeting minutes.
  • Maintain records and distribute necessary teaching materials to adjunct instructors.
  • Maintain the adjunct instructor candidate files.
  • Manage the adjunct hiring process.
  • Maintain updated files and records on adjunct instructors.
  • Prepare various enrolment reports and assist in the preparation of grant proposals and new course proposals.
  • Maintain evaluation, personnel absence, posted hours and other required records for all instructional staff.
  • Maintain records of independent study contracts, overload contracts, extended service requests, new course approval requests, field trip requests, and textbook request. Prepare related reports, as required.
  • Maintain course procedures, new course submissions, out-district approvals, course inventory and program inventory, as required by the Kansas Board of Regents.
  • Maintain proper files in compliance with the state accrediting boards that govern the various programs for Academic Affairs.
  • Process student grade appeals.
  • Process student requests for life experience evaluation.
  • Attend staff development programs to keep cooperative agreements for outreach centers.
  • Assist with the preparation of class schedules.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordination of activities for Faculty In-Services.
  • Establish and maintain computer files relevant to academic needs.
  • Responsible for appointments, agendas, travel and meeting arrangements for the Vice President of Academic Affairs.
  • Maintain records and distribute necessary teaching materials to adjunct instructors.
  • Oversee textbook, instructor resource and key tracking.

International Student Services Coordinator

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Position Reports To: Executive Director of Enrollment Management

Job Summary:

The international student services coordinator serves as the primary contact for international students. The individual in this position will oversee the admissions process, provide orientation and advising services, and coordinate with other campus departments to ensure opportunities for engagement on campus and in the community for the international student population.

  • Guide students through the international student admissions process
  • Maintain admissions files on international applicants
  • Assess student transcripts to determine eligibility for enrollment
  • Provide new student orientation sessions for incoming international students
  • Prepare reports on international student enrollment and retention
  • Coordinate with the Executive Director of Enrollment Management to ensure admissions procedures are up-to-date and in compliance with state and federal laws
  • Coordinate international student recruitment

International Student Advising:

  • Oversee testing and placement compliance
  • Assist students in completing a plan of study
  • Advise students on transfer and immigration requirements
  • Provide enrollment assistance
  • Monitor student academic progress and follow-up with students and stakeholders as necessary

International Student Life:

  • Arrange transportation to and from the airport upon arrival and departure from the U.S.
  • Coordinate with other college entities to provide off-campus day trips
  • Sponsor the International Student Organization
  • Provide opportunities for intercultural awareness
  • Assist with coordinating the foster family program for international students
  • Coordinate with other college entities to provide health, mental health, and academic assistance services as required

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Computer skills in basic office software such as word processing, spreadsheets, e-mail, and student data systems.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.
  • Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Good communications skills, both written and spoken.

Required Education Background:

  • Bachelor’s degree, Master’s preferred
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred

Required Experience: Two years in a higher education setting, experience in international advising or international education preferred

SQL Server Administrator

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Position Reports To: VP Information Technology

Status: Full Time/Salary Exempt

Job Summary:

The SQL Server Administrator will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server systems, and ensure availability and consistent performance of all SQL systems. This is a “hands-on” position requiring strong technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the SQL Server infrastructure, ensuring security, health and performance of the systems. Core duties will be administration of the Jenzabar EX student information system, including upgrades and customer support. Must be capable of working independently, as part of a technical team and in consultation with customers.

The person in this role must have the ability to maintain and improve existing databases, and develop and create new database systems while working to optimize data flow between different database systems and across the organization. You will work with a wide variety of users to understand current functional business processes and suggest and implement reports, queries, and new systems to improve and enhance those processes. You will also coordinate with our existing software vendors to ensure uptime and performance across our systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage SQL Server and associated databases from installation to mission-critical production systems.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Apply industry standard techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
  • Work with Module Managers to identify system needs and to ensure operational needs are being met.
  • Serve as a liaison between Module Managers and Jenzabar for problem solving and resolution.
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution when necessary.
  • Automate and improve regular processes, then track issues and document changes
  • Develop complex queries and create reports.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Share expertise by providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other team members.
  • On-call troubleshooting and support for SQL Server maintenance and other network-related service outages
  • Monitor, maintain and enhance existing database systems and applications
  • Perform regular database maintenance.
  • Ensure integrity, availability, security and performance of existing database systems.
  • Ensure fast query responses and improved user experience.
  • Monitor database performance, evaluating and resolving processing and programming problems or work with vendors to do the same.
  • Develop and run data views, reports and queries based on user and departmental needs.
  • Identify database systems and application requirements by consulting with end users, analyzing existing applications, reports, programming and operations.
  • Develop understanding of data use and flow throughout the organization.
  • Help coordinate interfaces and integrations between database systems and applications.
  • Evaluate existing database systems and designs and implements proposed database systems.
  • Work with application vendors to ensure best practices for their products are followed and to improve applications and performance.
  • Create documentation of existing databases and integrations including data standards, definitions, and procedures.
  • Serve as the escalation point for IT support team with user issues in functional areas.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience with database administration
  • Must have extensive experience in Microsoft SQL server administration
  • Familiarity with data manipulation languages and principles of database design
  • Ability to write queries and reports in MS SQL and InfoMaker
  • Ability to create documentation independently
  • Proven skills and experience with database performance tuning
  • Adept at database process improvement and problem solving
  • Ability to present technical information to nontechnical users
  • Ability to listen to nontechnical users and understand and analyze business processes and reports
  • Customer service oriented with a problem solving attitude
  • Highly motivated, a self-starter, creative, able to work independently and as part of a team, possess a strong attention to detail and have a “can do” attitude
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and assistance

Public Safety Officer-Reserve — Part-Time Opportunity

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Cowley College is seeking a reserve Public Safety Officer. Reserves are needed to ‘fill in’ during required shifts. This is a part-time position.

The Public Safety Officer promotes lawful behavior and protects the welfare of students, faculty, staff, and visitors as a uniformed presence on campus. This position performs foot and vehicle patrols of the College campus and outreach centers to monitor behavior, secure buildings and property, investigate disturbances, maintain order during events and enforce regulations. In addition, this position monitors the physical safety of campus and center buildings by locking and unlocking doors, patrolling and monitoring using surveillance systems, and reporting suspicious behavior. During emergency situations, the officer responds to the scene, provides first aid, and alerts additional police or emergency personnel as appropriate. Other duties may include monitoring alarm systems and responding to alerts and serving as crowd control at special events.

Required Education/Training Background:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related degree, preferred.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
  • Taser Certification.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of security and/or public safety experience. Law enforcement certification, preferred.
  • Current valid driver’s license with favorable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to complete MMPI Psychological Evaluation on file (within most recent 24 months).
