Admissions Representative/Student Athlete Advisor

Location: Ark City Main Campus

Status: Full-time/Exempt

Division: Enrollment Management

Position Reports To: Executive Director of Enrollment Management

Job Summary:
The Admissions Representative/Student Athlete Advisor is responsible for the implementation of the admissions recruitment plan through campus visits and events, high school visits, college fairs, adult education fairs, academic advising, billing and receiving, financial aid, and other recruitment strategies as assigned by the Executive Director of Enrollment Management. This position will advise our student athlete population.

Job Duties:

  • Implement all aspects of the admissions recruitment plan.
  • Make initial contacts with high schools and community organizations to initiate interest in the College in KS and OK.
  • Make follow-up contacts to prospective students on a regular basis through high school visits, education fairs, adult education fairs, phone calls, e-mails, scholarships, and letters.
  • Primary duties would be to advise athletic student population.
  • Maintain accurate records and follow up recruitment activities in admissions department databases.
  • Travel and attend various events including; business visits, high school visits, college planning conferences, KACRAO annual admission conference, and any other school or community events that arise.
  • Assist with planning and implementing campus visits and event day, may include some weekends.
  • Recruit students according to the standards, guidelines and practices established by the Kansas Association of Collegiate Registrars and Admissions Officers (KACRAO) and by the College.
  • Assist with updating student demographic and academic information in the admissions database.
  • Assist with the development of a recruitment program for returning adult students, including contacts with Business & Industry, Counselors, and students who complete their GED.
  • Assist with the development of recruiting materials, brochures, handouts, and other printed materials.
  • Act as a liaison between assigned academic divisions and the Admissions Office.
  • Assist faculty, coaches and/or activity sponsors with recruiting efforts.
  • Provide guidance to students on the completion of their college application, assessment, enrollment, financial aid, and business office processes.
  • Determine payment options and accurately receipt and deposit funds when working with students.
  • Direct students on the navigation of student information systems such as Tiger Connect, Blackboard, and Jenzabar EX.
  • Monitor student progress and follow-up as directed.
  • Manage and maintain accurate academic records and information in the Jenzabar EX Systems.
  • Keep current on advising and enrollment information by active participation in the Advisor Alerts online course.
  • Provide students with graduation and transfer information including the degree applications.
  • Provide scholarship information and assistance with the application processes.
  • Serve as primary referral point for all student questions.
  • Evaluate student’s degree plan, transcripts while enrolling in proper classes.
  • Provide knowledge to students on information regarding course transfer ability and alternatives for continuing education opportunities.
  • Assist in the daily functions of the Wichita Bookstore.
  • Ability to work at other remote centers as necessary to assist when other centers/campuses are understaffed (Wichita, and Wellington Campus (Fall of 2018)).
  • Schedule and proctor tests for instructors/students, both from Cowley College and other Colleges.
  • Guide students utilizing the current LMS in the student computer lab.
  • Serve as contact to students for current program and other necessary information.
  • Provide student referrals to appropriate areas (Student Life Counseling, Disability Services, IMPACT).
  • Maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organization.
  • Comply with all College policies and procedures
  • Assist the Executive Director of Enrollment Management by performing other related duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge and Skills:

  • Self-motivated and able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to maintain professional composure in stressful situations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Office 365, social media, Jenzabar EX, Google, Zogotech, and other databases.
  • Ability to accurately handle and balance cash receipts.
  • Professional knowledge of community college and other postsecondary institutions.
  • Ability to research and analyze various types of information.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as on a team.
  • Ability to work and maintain the highest level of confidentiality.

Required Education Background:

Director of Financial Aid

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Status: Full-time//Salaried/Exempt

Position Reports To: Executive Director of Enrollment Management

Job Summary:
The Director of Financial Aid shall, under the jurisdiction of the Executive Director of Enrollment Management, perform those duties assigned by the President to provide for the administration of specified programs of financial aid.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide leadership in the development and implementation of policies and procedures relating to the programs of Financial Aid and assure that such programs are directed toward the fulfillment of the mission and philosophy of the College.
  • Administer and coordinate all financial aid programs, including scholarships, loans, grants, Federal Work Study, and other employment opportunities.
  • Assist in providing financial aid information and feedback to students at the College’s Outreach Centers.
  • Conduct public speaking engagements and presentations of financial aid information for returning and/or prospective students and parents.
  • Prepare accurate and appropriate reports as required by local, state and federal agencies, including the year-end FISAP report of federal expenditures and application for funding.
  • Develop budget proposals for submission to the Executive Director of Enrollment Management and implement budgets as approved.
  • Provide assistance, guidance and training to the Financial Aid Specialist.
  • Maintain Financial Aid Office technology to insure compliance with electronic processing requirements and to provide our customers with effective and efficient customer service.
  • Administer and coordinate the student loan program; including designing and implementing loan default strategies, entrance and exit counseling and the processing of loans.
  • Identify and follow-up on academically and financially high risk students.
  • Administer and coordinate the Federal and Institutional Work Study Program; including processing payroll, monitoring budgets and student placement in the work study program.
  • Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.
  • Must maintain courteous, professional and effective working relationships with employees, vendors and/or any other representatives of external organization.
  • Comply with all College policies and procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the Executive Director of Enrollment Management.

Required Education Background:

  • Bachelor’s Degree required

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Comprehensive knowledge of all phases of financial aid operations.
  • Ability to organize priorities and work effectively in a strong service environment under pressure and subject to frequently changing state and federal regulations.
  • Adequate experience in the use of office tools and equipment utilized in the operation of a financial aid office.
  • Good interpersonal skills - must be able to work with technical and administrative personnel in a pleasant, professional and efficient manner.
  • Ability to effectively organize and direct personnel.
  • Ability to prepare, interpret, and maintain individual program and departmental budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability and knowledge to provide team leadership for planning, development, and operation of a diverse service environment.
  • Accomplished oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding of and commitment to AQIP.
  • Understanding of and commitment to FERPA.

Required Experience:

  • At least three years progressively responsible, financial aid work experience.

Public Safety Officer-Reserve — Part-Time Opportunity

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Cowley College is seeking a reserve Public Safety Officer. Reserves are needed to ‘fill in’ during required shifts. This is a part-time position.

The Public Safety Officer promotes lawful behavior and protects the welfare of students, faculty, staff, and visitors as a uniformed presence on campus. This position performs foot and vehicle patrols of the College campus and outreach centers to monitor behavior, secure buildings and property, investigate disturbances, maintain order during events and enforce regulations. In addition, this position monitors the physical safety of campus and center buildings by locking and unlocking doors, patrolling and monitoring using surveillance systems, and reporting suspicious behavior. During emergency situations, the officer responds to the scene, provides first aid, and alerts additional police or emergency personnel as appropriate. Other duties may include monitoring alarm systems and responding to alerts and serving as crowd control at special events.

Required Education/Training Background:

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Associate’s Degree in Criminal Justice or related degree, preferred.
  • CPR, AED, and First Aid certification.
  • Taser Certification.

Required Experience:

  • Minimum of 2 years of security and/or public safety experience. Law enforcement certification, preferred.
  • Current valid driver’s license with favorable driving record.
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen.
  • Must be able to complete MMPI Psychological Evaluation on file (within most recent 24 months).
