Department Secretary – Upward Bound Trio Programs (Part-time)

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Job Summary:

The Program Secretary is responsible for assisting the Academic Coordinator and Program Director with day to day operations and data support for the Upward Bound Program.

Position Duties:

  • Prepare correspondence from staff.
  • Assure proper admission documents and other correspondence documents are maintained in participant’s files.
  • Assist Program Director with data collection.
  • Provide program information to those who inquire by phone or in the program office.
  • Process reports and related information about the program.
  • Maintain computerized tracking system.
  • Create on-line monthly newsletter of Upward Bound participants, parents,
  • Report directly to the program director.
  • Must be punctual and timely in meeting all requirements of performance, including, but not limited to attendance standards and work deadlines; beginning and ending assignments on time; and scheduled work breaks, where applicable.

Custodian (Full Time)

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Shift: 3rd Shift

Full-time: M – F (9:00 pm – 6:00 am)

Closes: Position will remain open until filled.

Job Summary:

The Custodian is responsible for the safety and cleanliness of assigned buildings. The custodian will assist groundskeepers, as needed and directed by the custodial supervisor.

Position Duties:

  • Clean assigned offices, classrooms, restrooms and lobby areas using the proper custodial cleaning methods for sanitizing, mopping, sweeping, dusting, etc.
    • Classrooms: vacuum, clean tabletops, clean whiteboards, straighten chairs and tables, empty trash
    • Offices: Clean all surfaces without personal items (no desktops), vacuum, empty trash, dust, clean windows/doors.
    • Lobbies: sweep, mop, vacuum, dust public computers, clean tabletops, clean windows/doors.
    • Restrooms:
      • Daily: Clean toilets, sinks, mirrors and urinals. Sweep and mop. Empty trash. Change trash bags. Wipe off trash bins. Check supplies of toilet paper, paper towels, soap and hand sanitizers.
      • At least every 6 months: Deep Cleaning
  • Clean exterior doors and office doors, daily.
  • Dust surfaces daily, including: office furniture, window ledges, shelves (without personal items), filing cabinets, vents, wood treatment.
  • Clean light covers, as needed.
  • Scrub and/or strip and wax floors, as needed.
  • Spot shampoo or extract carpets, as needed. Note any carpet stains that cannot be immediately removed, and follow-up.
  • Buff floors, completed on a floor rotation schedule.
  • Cover facility requests, including (but not limited to):
    • Event set-up
    • Clean-up after completion of event
    • As needed, communications with event requestor to assure event details are known and followed
    • Maintain event list and information for designated area
  • Report any building damage utilizing work request system.
  • Assist in loading and unloading supplies and equipment delivered to the College. Deliver supplies and packages to appropriate departments/employees.
  • Maintain nightly supply needs.
  • Maintain interior walkways.
  • Assist with de-icing and snow removal procedures for exterior walkways.
  • Secure designated buildings and classrooms.
  • Maintain all tools and equipment.
  • Be alert to storm warnings and assist with the safety and evacuation procedures in all buildings when threatening weather conditions exist; know and be able to implement necessary procedures for evacuation of building/area in the case of fire.
  • Replace light bulbs and fluorescent tubes (except in scenarios that require special equipment or ladders)

Financial Aid Service Specialist

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Job Summary:

The Financial Aid Service Specialist will perform assigned duties to assist students with the navigation of the financial aid process, receive all financial aid calls and assist in improving financial aid processes.

Essential Functions:

  • Provide guidance to students through all stages of the financial aid process using the PowerFAID and EX systems.
  • Answer and process all financial aid calls.
  • Maintain knowledge of billing and student accounts.
  • Assist admissions staff and students with financial aid counseling, as needed.
  • Manage and respond to financial aid e-mails.
  • Mitigate financial aid problems for student.
  • Continuously seek ways to improve the financial aid process for students.
  • Maintain knowledge of all Cowley college programs and resources.

  • Maintain current knowledge and understanding of all title IV Federal Financial aid programs and compliance regulations for those programs administered at Cowley College.

Library Services Assistant (Part-time)

Job Summary:

The Library Services Assistant position assists the Director of Library Services with all operations of the Library. This is a part-time, evening position: Monday – Thursday 4:00 pm – 10:00 pm and Sundays 2:00 pm – 10:00 pm.

Essential Functions:

  • Supervise the library and student assistants in the evening and filling in for other slots as needed to ensure adequate coverage.
  • Provide assistance to individuals and groups in locating and utilizing library materials, online resources and library equipment.
  • Assist in the circulation of library materials.
  • Provide routine receptionist, correspondence, clerical and recordkeeping services for the Director of Library Services.

Wellness Center Concierge (Part-time)

Job Summary:

The Wellness Center Concierge works in conjunction with the Wellness Manager to provide quality wellness, recreational and instructional activities within the Ben Cleveland Wellness Center. The focus of this position is to create a positive and energetic environment with high levels of customer service for all patrons of the Wellness Center. Hours for this position are Monday-Friday 5:00 am to 10:00 am.

Position Duties:

  • Monitor Wellness Center, including overall health, safety and security of the facility, its patrons and equipment.
  • Assist center patrons with use of Wellness Center equipment.
  • Be encouraging, informative and motivating for all persons using the wellness center. Create a non-intimidating environment where members feel safe and supported.
  • Perform individual orientations for new members on the use of wellness center equipment. Provide an overview and demonstration of all equipment in the wellness center.
  • Educate patrons on the proper use of equipment.
  • Learn, review and follow emergency procedures, assist in emergencies by following appropriate emergency procedures.
  • Keep facility neat and orderly, disinfect equipment, organize free weights.

Professional Writing Tutor (Part-time)

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Classification: Part-time/hourly

Position Reports To: English Faculty

Job Summary:

The Professional Writing Tutor will conduct tutoring sessions with students who visit the Writing Center by assessing their needs, creating an appropriate tutoring plan, and assisting the students with their writing concerns. The professional tutor must have excellent communication skills, which include providing a welcoming, knowledgeable, and supportive presence in the center. Professional tutors should be willing to work with a diverse group of college students on both cognitive and non-cognitive skills. In addition, the professional tutor will mentor and supervise peer tutors and will assist the coordinator with the day-to-day operations of the Writing Center. This is an hourly, part-time position while classes are in session. Pay based on degree.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide writing tutoring services to students through both scheduled and drop-in appointments
  • Assist in the development and/or presentation of writing workshops
  • Mentor and supervise peer tutors
  • Professionally and positively work with all students and visitors
  • Advise students on a variety of academic skills, such as study strategies, computer skills, and time management
  • Motivate students and provide them with confidence to feel successful
  • Use best practices in writing tutoring to enable students to become independent learners
  • Submit reports of each tutoring session
  • Assist in marketing the Writing Center to students, staff, and the community
  • Attend staff meetings and training sessions

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in English or a related subject
  • Experience tutoring or teaching writing at the secondary or post-secondary level
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Punctuality and reliability
  • Strong computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Word
  • Availability in afternoons and evenings for 9-15 hours per week

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a college or university setting
  • Experience teaching college-level writing composition courses

Staff Accountant

Job Summary:

The Staff Accountant will perform general accounting duties and functions including construction accounting, and assist the Director of Accounting with financial analyses, and preparation of budget and annual financial audit schedules.

Essential Functions:

  • Prepare and analyze information from the general ledger for financial reporting.
  • Prepares general ledger entries by maintaining records and files; reconciling accounts.
  • Daily reconciliation of bank account transactions.

Public Safety Officer

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Department: Campus Security & Public Safety

Position Reports To: Director of Campus Security and Public Safety

Status: Full Time

Shift: Evening Shift: Tuesday – Friday: Midnight to 7:00 am; Sunday 7:00 pm – 7:00 am.

Job Summary:

Cowley College Public Safety Officer promotes lawful behavior and protects the welfare of students, faculty, staff, and visitors as a uniformed public safety presence on campus. This position performs foot and vehicle patrols and surveillance monitoring at Cowley College campuses, centers, and events/activities to monitor human behavior, buildings and property, investigate disturbances, maintain order, and enforce regulations. Additionally, this position is responsible for the physical safety of all campus buildings, and parking facilities, which includes patrolling and using surveillance systems to report suspicious behavior; and locking and unlocking doors. In emergency situation, the Public Safety Officer is responsible for responding to the situation to provide first aid (if needed), and notifying additional law enforcement and/or emergency personnel, as deemed necessary. Other duties include monitoring and responding to alarm systems, and serving as crowd control at special events and activities hosted by the college.

Position Duties:

  • Guard the security of the students, faculty, staff and campus visitors who are present in the school or College campus and the off-campus areas.
  • Patrol all College assigned areas on foot, in assigned motor vehicle, or other specialized vehicle to ensure personal, building, and equipment security.
  • Examine doors, windows, and gates to ensure security; use College keys to open and close buildings; monitor closed building for unauthorized persons and/or suspicious activities.
  • Comply and enforce all college policies and procedures, as well as Federal, State, County and City laws and regulations including OSHA, CLERY, and VAWA, and others.
  • Provide escort services for visitors, students, staff, and faculty, as necessary.
  • Provide other public assistance, such as lockout services, motor vehicle jump-starts, and routine information.
  • Watch for and report irregularities, such as security breaches, facility and safety hazards, and emergency situations; and contact emergency responders, such as police, fire, and/or ambulance personnel, as required.
  • Be on alert for the presence of unauthorized persons and/or security code violators; approach suspicious persons and/or notify police, as appropriate.
  • Send emergency communication announcements and instructions via intercom, text, email, etc.
  • Document violations of college policy and other events by producing effectively written incident reports.
  • Report, document, and investigate incidents, i.e. auto accidents, personal injuries, theft, and miscellaneous reports.
  • Submit daily report s for review and approval.
  • Accept and record recovered lost or found property.
  • Provide information and direction to visitors, students, and staff.
  • Maintain a helpful and caring attitude while interacting with students, public, and staff.
  • Know disaster/emergency procedures and implement as necessary.
  • Maintain confidentiality on all records, reports, and incidents that are investigated by the security department, as well as any other record and/or information that is accessible to the security department.
  • Assist with parking control and monitoring of large groups, special events, and athletic events.

SQL Server Administrator

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Position Reports To: VP Information Technology

Status: Full Time/Salary Exempt

Job Summary:

The SQL Server Administrator will be responsible for the implementation, configuration, maintenance, and performance of critical SQL Server systems, and ensure availability and consistent performance of all SQL systems. This is a “hands-on” position requiring strong technical skills, as well as excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and maintenance of the SQL Server infrastructure, ensuring security, health and performance of the systems. Core duties will be administration of the Jenzabar EX student information system, including upgrades and customer support. Must be capable of working independently, as part of a technical team and in consultation with customers.

The person in this role must have the ability to maintain and improve existing databases, and develop and create new database systems while working to optimize data flow between different database systems and across the organization. You will work with a wide variety of users to understand current functional business processes and suggest and implement reports, queries, and new systems to improve and enhance those processes. You will also coordinate with our existing software vendors to ensure uptime and performance across our systems.

Responsibilities

  • Manage SQL Server and associated databases from installation to mission-critical production systems.
  • Configure and maintain database servers and processes, including monitoring of system health and performance, to ensure high levels of performance, availability, and security.
  • Apply industry standard techniques to ensure development and implementation support efforts meet integration and performance expectations.
  • Work with Module Managers to identify system needs and to ensure operational needs are being met.
  • Serve as a liaison between Module Managers and Jenzabar for problem solving and resolution.
  • Independently analyze, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution when necessary.
  • Automate and improve regular processes, then track issues and document changes
  • Develop complex queries and create reports.
  • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Share expertise by providing technical mentorship and cross-training to other team members.
  • On-call troubleshooting and support for SQL Server maintenance and other network-related service outages
  • Monitor, maintain and enhance existing database systems and applications
  • Perform regular database maintenance.
  • Ensure integrity, availability, security and performance of existing database systems.
  • Ensure fast query responses and improved user experience.
  • Monitor database performance, evaluating and resolving processing and programming problems or work with vendors to do the same.
  • Develop and run data views, reports and queries based on user and departmental needs.
  • Identify database systems and application requirements by consulting with end users, analyzing existing applications, reports, programming and operations.
  • Develop understanding of data use and flow throughout the organization.
  • Help coordinate interfaces and integrations between database systems and applications.
  • Evaluate existing database systems and designs and implements proposed database systems.
  • Work with application vendors to ensure best practices for their products are followed and to improve applications and performance.
  • Create documentation of existing databases and integrations including data standards, definitions, and procedures.
  • Serve as the escalation point for IT support team with user issues in functional areas.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 3+ years’ experience with database administration
  • Must have extensive experience in Microsoft SQL server administration
  • Familiarity with data manipulation languages and principles of database design
  • Ability to write queries and reports in MS SQL and InfoMaker
  • Ability to create documentation independently
  • Proven skills and experience with database performance tuning
  • Adept at database process improvement and problem solving
  • Ability to present technical information to nontechnical users
  • Ability to listen to nontechnical users and understand and analyze business processes and reports
  • Customer service oriented with a problem solving attitude
  • Highly motivated, a self-starter, creative, able to work independently and as part of a team, possess a strong attention to detail and have a “can do” attitude
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and assistance

Public Safety Officer-Reserve — Part-Time Opportunity

Location: Arkansas City Main Campus

Cowley College is seeking a reserve Public Safety Officer. Reserves are needed to ‘fill in’ during required shifts. This is a part-time position.

The Public Safety Officer promotes lawful behavior and protects the welfare of students, faculty, staff, and visitors as a uniformed presence on campus. This position performs foot and vehicle patrols of the College campus and outreach centers to monitor behavior, secure buildings and property, investigate disturbances, maintain order during events and enforce regulations. In addition, this position monitors the physical safety of campus and center buildings by locking and unlocking doors, patrolling and monitoring using surveillance systems, and reporting suspicious behavior. During emergency situations, the officer responds to the scene, provides first aid, and alerts additional police or emergency personnel as appropriate. Other duties may include monitoring alarm systems and responding to alerts and serving as crowd control at special events.
