Faculty of Music

Cowley College is seeking a full-time Faculty of Music. This person will be responsible for teaching courses related to the music program. Courses may include Music Theory, Aural Skills, Piano courses and /or lessons, Music Appreciation and possible vocal lessons. In addition, this position may include some accompanist duties for the annual musical theatre production and as needed for the department. The successful candidate will also be expected to recruit for the music department. Recruiting activities include, but are not limited to, high school visits, guest clinics, and auditioning prospective students.
One of the key duties of the faculty member will be to work with the performing arts directors and administration to jointly develop and implement a strategy to move performing arts to flagship status for the College. It is clearly understood that the College must commit the resources needed for this to occur.
This Faculty of Music will teach (15) fifteen credit hours.
The Faculty of Music will not be required to teach any overload courses but may be allowed to do so. Overload hours must be requested and approved by Department Chair and Academic Affairs Administration. Any exceptions to the load requirements must be approved by Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Required Education Background:
• Master’s Degree with at least 18 hours of graduate level course work within music content area.
- Minimum of three years teaching experience at the secondary or post-secondary level.
- Must have keyboard skills, accompanist experience and pedagogical knowledge.
- Must be well versed in the various styles of music.
Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time; ability to move freely around the campus; ability to lift up to 50 pounds; ability to bend, stoop, reach and grasp as required to perform responsibilities; ability to drive motor vehicle; and ability to work on the computer for long periods of time.
Work performed in a theatre environment, office and in a classroom. Must be willing to work evenings and weekends, as needed.
